All zones of the emergency collecting pit that can be impinged by liquid metal are made out of foamceramic.

Our modified foamceramic is, more specifically, a porous building material that is bonded with calcium aluminate cement and does not undergo any redensification.

Expansion additives and melt regulators, as well as the specific raw material selection, facilitate an exact adjustment to the respective melt.

Water and steam effortlessly penetrate the foam ceramic (approximately 40% open pore volume), but the liquid metal does not penetrate and solidifies on the surface (see picture). The "explosion penetration" which is so feared is thus not a problem for us.
